Where is the best place to go to see elephant seals? I would like to take my family to see some in a natural setting.

Aye, Ano Nuevo is amazing, you can wander in among the big males lying in the dunes, massive, like submarines. We saw a smaller male on the beach that had a huge shark bite on his flank.

You have to book online and go on a guided walk.

Ano Nuevo, make your reservations and GO, they are not afraid of humans, it's something to see.

Boy, haven't been there since I was 15 I think.  Think I should head out there again soon.

Around mid Feb. a few miles north of San Simeon there is a great place to veiw the Elephant seals too. There is a large turnout next to Hwy 1, a wooden boardwalk along the cliff leads you to a nice viewing area looking right down on a beach covered with Elephant seals. Doesn't cost a cent and you dont need a tour guide. excelent photo opps. I spent a few hours watching some Bulls fight over the harem of females last year, lots of fun. Kimo
