long before there was a coastide fishing club, there was a tackle shop in pacifica called coastside #2 bait and tackle, run by a guy named vasco fernandez.  well, vasco is gone.  and the new guy is trying hard to break out from under the shadow of the old owner.

to get to "the new coastside #2 bait and tackle shop," you drive down highway 1 through pacifica...

and look for the francisco boulevard exit that takes you to the pacifica pier....

right off the exit is don holloway's bar called winter's tavern, the a one way street, then a beauty parlor, and then the tackle shop....

it's a little "hole in the wall" shop, right off the freeway.  the address is 1604 francisco boulevard, the pacifica pier is only 4 blocks farther down, and the shop is very easy to miss....

when you walk in, you will be greeted by this guy.  his name is marque glisson.  he actually worked for vasco for the last two years.  when vasco decided to retire, marque decided to take the shop over.  that was july first.  and since that date, he has been in the shop, every day of the week, from 6 in the morning to 7 in evening.  he's smiling in the photo, but he's got to be tired....

and here's a tour of the shop, starting from the above photo of marque at the front counter, then clockwise around the shop....

being 4 blocks from the pacifica pier, he gets alot of fishermen that proudly refer to themselves as "pier rats!,"  so for these guys, he carries alot of premade leaders, terminal tackle, weights, frozen bait, pier crab nets, and a salmon float that is specifically designed for pier fishing.  he also carries a fair amount of fresh water tackle, trolling and mooching salmon gear, lots of rockcod gear, and even some tuna stuff.  servicewise, he has a line winder and bulk line, he has a guy that will repair rods at $12 per guide, and another fella that repairs penn reels.  i've offered to help out in any way that i can, but i don't want to step on the toes of the reel repair guy that he already works with.  marque asked me about a reel repair seminar at the shop some day.  there actually is enough room in the shop, and they do have a bar right down the street....

so the next time you're in the neighborhood, check out the "new" coastside #2 tackle shop.

Thanks for that Alan it's great seeing a small shop being able to survive in spite of the Big Box. I don't make it to Pacifica a lot but now I have another reason to go. It adds to the experience when you can go into a shop that stocks what the locals use and get an honest fishing report. It's definitely worth the extra dollar or so just to talk to somebody who knows their business its almost like hiring a consultant, have you asked the guy working at Wally World or Big 5 how the fishing is or what lures are hot?

Thanks for posting this.  I've heard of the store but never knew exactly where it was.  I'm all for small business and will definitely stop by to buy some tackle.

Thanks for the tour Alan...

Coastside Tackle #2 generously donated a ~$50 grab bag of tackle for the Coastside Raffle we had at the Elk Tourney... another good reason to return the favor and give them some business.

If you hold reel seminar at the shop, try to have it on a weekend.

Mark is a great guy, and really stepped up to donate for the raffle at a time he probably didn't have it to donate. Please go see him and if he doesn't have what you want, ask him to get it for you....

I have used coastside #2 bait and tackle many times this past summer and I have found the prices to the best around.  His assortment of swimbaits, lures and tackle has grown the past few months and he will always try to get what you need.
