The conditions today were as good as it can get in terms of no wind, clear skies, very little swell, and clear water.  All in all one of the best kayaking days I have had in Santa Cruz.  The problem is the fish did not agree with my observations and all seemed to suffer from  "LockJaw".  In fishing all day (fished outside the Harbor, fished the Lighhouse and fished South Rock) I only had a few nibbles and no takers.  The whole day I only saw one Ling taken out at South Rock.   As we passed the One Mile Buoy (I fished with FishFlogger) we saw quite a few boats there but there was no time to check them out.  Maybe something was going on there but somehow I doubt it.  After fishing and putting away the Kayak, I went over to see the Anglers get off the Velocity to see what can be done with power instead of paddles.  The few little baggies of cleaned fish I saw confirmed their day was no better.  It was so fantastic out there today, I can't believe it did not also include fish.

Sounds like a great day on the salt, yes it would have been nice had the fish cooperated, seems they do have a mind of their own,,,,

I sat at work all day looking out the window,,,,,,,,,,,,your day sounds better, fish or not, :smt002

At least you were able to get out on a nice day even without any fish. I am sure
you'll get 'em next time.

I think I saw you off West Cliff. Were you in a Hobie?

As khmunger said the conditions were off the hook. My only complaint was the fast drift which made it hard to stay over the structure. I ended the day with two of the smallest rock fish I have ever caught. One was a pretty little stary rock fish and the other was a tiny black. Both came off south rock.

On a more positive note I saw a quite a nice variety of wild life. I had dolphins surface about 50ft off my bow,  a sea otter and there were tons of jelly fish in the water. The best day on the water this year in terms of weather\wind. I'm glad we got to go for such a nice paddle on my last day of ocean fishing for the season. It's time to start hitting the freshwater lakes for trout\bass.

I went out today. It was like a lake out there. So warm, I jumped off my kayak and took a swim.
