Here are more pictures of the Bass Pro Shops in Manteca, beyond the one-day visit by the pool player. There is one booth next to the fishing department where pitchmen get you to sign up for a free shopping spree at Bass Pro Shops. Of course, they want something from you...to visit Las Vegas to check out some property for sale or timeshare. Several times, I watched "ringers" join a coversation to pretend that he's in town from Las Vegas to sign up, to encourage the prospect to sign up with his credit card.

The facility is impressive. It's simply HUGE. I'll have to visit a Cabela's sometime and compare notes. Once you get through the entrance and past the fancy decorations, though, it's just one big sporting goods department store (with no pool tables). With as much stuff as they sell, though, I couldn't find any of the items I was looking for that weren't available locally (beefier aerators, ringed J-hooks, etc.). So I'll special order through the local businesses rather than drive all the way out to BPS again.

The place looks like a one day event. I'll make sure to pack a lunch and maybe a
nap everynow and then. Thanks for the pictures Hojoman.

Great photos Howard. You just saved me a 200 mile round trip.
When I saw the 'Fudge" sign on the general Store I almost headed to Apple Hill immediately. Then I remembered the crowds. I can wait until Monday since it is virtually in my backyard.

:smt044   Blue-Green properties?  Hahahaha  My wife happened to slow down just a step when we were leaving the Las vegas store and the guy said $200 in free BPS cards!  Well all I heard was $200 free gift cards, and she was stopped already and the guy was sellin!
Well, we signed up full knowing we wern't going to buy a timeshare.  Got to the place, During the speal, we got to tour the rooms,  real nice rooms, indoor pools the works, not to far off the strip. Talked with some guy, who at some point brought another "Financial guy" all the way from NY to talk to us.
We noticed that ALL the timeshare places they had were back EAST.  Not one out here in CA, nothing in Tahoe or in AZ.  Closest location was in Montana.  Everything else was pretty much on the esat coast.  I don't care vacation there thank you.
We finished and after them trying to pry a credit card to start, we said no, and collected my 2 $100 BPS gift cards!  On the way to the airport we stopped at BPS and I bought 2 reels!  Abu Garcia, C3 and the Diawa "Acudepth 17" linecounter bait caster.
Anyone that happens to agree to signup be sure to ask them about their timeshares out west!

Back to thread.  Store looks real nice.  I feel a road trip comming up soon!

I made a trip over to the valley to visit family yesterday and just had to stop in at BPS. :smt007

True that Hojoman.  Funny thing though, my wife and I were about 10 steps in when we heard an employee say to a customer, "this is one of the smallest stores."  I can only imagine what their national headquarters in Missouri looks like.

All in all, a nice store, but I agree, most of my shopping will be done locally to support smaller stores.

I went there this year It's huge you could spend all day there, but I was more impressed with the KC Cabelas

Do they sell guns (handguns)?

And if so, do they have a decent selection?

Dustin the Store in Springfield has a great selection but was geared to the more expensive one's
The Manteca Store has them in their Grand Opening Flyer http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=163&option=3&template=circular.cfm&catalog=goman_08_tab&storeID=51

I didn't even bother to look at the guns I haven't used my guns in at least 10 years, since my eye injury. Kinda difficult to shoot (rifles) right handed with the left eye. Hand guns, however, are a different story. Will have to get out to the range again after the wet season.

I just came back from New England and they have a store next to Gillete Stadium, nice place.  My Brother in law and I went there.  Stadium is the nicest have seen in the NFL beats that dump they call Candlestick.  It is more like a sports shopping center stadium outlet thing.  Very well thought out, except traffic there on a Sunday is horrible.

I visited BPS Tuesday to buy a trolling outfit for the delta, and some tolling lures, they were out of the lures and had no abu garcia c4 or revo sx reels in LH models. I did pick up a trolling rod for 49.00. I then visited Delta Bait and Tackle, Which had all abu garcia in LH models. I spent 250.00 there at DBT. I was very surprised BPS didn't have Rapala trolling  lures for stripers, and wouldn't be in stock till December. Pretty disappointing experience at Bps, and super positive experience at DBT.
