Everyone should take notice of the Gaff in the photo. Not only is it home made, but it has no sharp point. I believe it is a plastic coated wire hanger you use in your garage for hanging up your bikes. That makes it a fantastic gaff job in my book. To slowly pick the fish up from under the gills and toss in the back of the boat,  :groupwave

Thanks Ken, I LOVE MY GAFF!  You are right, it's a garage bicycle hook from the hardware store ($1.75) & the end of a broken axe handle sawed off & sanded.  It works great, I've never hurt myself with it, or any fish I've picked up.

& what makes it even better is;  when you have a big fish on it you can shove it all the way in their mouth & pry it open for easy hook removal.  That technique seems to work well with Lingcod & you don't hurt the fish.
