Hey guys,
Speared an Opal eye in Monterey. This species home territory is southern cali. I wonder how it made so far north? Can it be that it got lost?

Cool, did you take a photo?

Anyway, it's not too rare to see SoCal fish up in Monterey.  Sheephead, calico bass, white sea bass, opaleye and several other species can all be found in Monterey Bay that are normally associated with SoCal.  In general these species don't go too much farther than Monterey Bay though.

I didn't know they went that far either.

Opaleye is a very tasty fish though.

I get them down here in SC on green peas off the rocks in La Jolla.  They're a bruiser on light gear.

Were you close to shore or outside when you got it?  I never seem to get any very far from a rocky shore.
