I have to admit i have long been jealous of the hobie peddlers. i first saw the adventure as chucke blew past me in my tarpon while salmon fishing at muir beach. Then i went salmon trolling at chimney rock w/Danglin where i witnessed the beauty and grace of hands free propulsion while fishing. i felt like i had a disability. Finally, Frankenfishing gave me a taste of the suite-life at BAMIII. He let me peddle his adventure. I was sold after the first 100yds. Then after meeting dans64 and hearing his first account of the shark-attack, and looking at the way the fins wiggle in the water, i realized i couldn't peddle one in the ocean with confidence. Last week i bought a shark-shield from spike and that changed the equation. i am now ready. i want to get a new adventure like Zeelander has.  One with the angler package, turbo-fins and sailing rudder.  Does anyone know if i can buy one new with those options or do i have to buy the turbo-fins and sailing rudder in addition to the ones it comes with? Secondly, iwas wondering where people reccomend buying it from?

Take a good look at the Revolution also. I tried em both and settled on the Revo. The speed is not much different, the revo turns better and is very similar to my Quest wich I've been on for a few years now. It's a real nice tweener.  :smt002 Windtoys will let you try em both out at Spring Lake.

Yeah, i guess i probably should check out the revo before i make my final decision. i am really excited about the prospect of hands free propulsion.

I would be sure to try the Outback Too.

Being your used to traditional Kayaks, The Revo and the Adventure will seem quite normal to you,

but if want a wide, stable working platform and total comfort, I don't think you can beat the Outback.

But she is a Tank.....

truthfully, my next one will most likely be an Adventure Island, looks like a Blast...

Don't they have another Boat coming out soon? Any Previews?

The Pro Angler is due out next spring and a bassers dream. Hobie Blue will be salivating! :smt003

http://www.kayakfishnation.com/?p=81

"Hobie is showing off a pre-production model of their new boat they’re calling the Pro Angler and from all accounts it is a battle cruiser. Over 38″ wide with a giant seat and enough room to walk around it is built for fishing flat water standing up. No one who has spent any time looking at it calls it a kayak, it’s almost more like a hybrid canoe for one."

Sunrise Mountain Sports has their annual rental sale this weekend.  I know they have a Revo for $1250.  I would buy it if I had more WAF points.  I bought my Outback there and I have no complaints except that they don't carry many parts.

Crap...I love the upgrades, but I already have an old Hobie!  One year old, and already outdated!  Maybe I'll sell mine this summer and get the '09!

Thanks Z!

if you do demo both boats at windtoys be sure to demo the rev first  then the outback the rev will be stable and the outback will be ridiculously stable   they have a couple of Adventures that are 07 that can not be up converted to the AI  marked down

Can my Hobie be upgraded to use the new 2009 Mirage Drive with the clip-in style locks?  I'd consider the switch to better fins next year if it were possible.

I saw a pre-production Pro Angler at Outdoor Retailer this summer. There's never been anything quite like it; this boat will be in a class of its own. Here's what I wrote on KayakFishingZone.com - skip on over if you've seen it.

Quote
Hobie was quietly showing the tentatively titled Mirage Pro Angler, a new sort of people-powered fishing craft. This thing is huge, with scads of horizontal rod lockers, enough tackle compartments to empty a store, and an elevated seat that’s more couch than cockpit. What’s more, there’s a non-skid deck for standing, all the better to huck that cast a mile, and removable accessory shelves for mounting goodies such as rod holders and electronics along the gunnels. Look for Hobie to reveal more info in spring '09.

Now, straying into opinion territory on a boat that's not been released is perilous, so take all of this with a grain of salt. Although some people may take these onto the open ocean, I expect most of the use will be in quiet water. We'll just have to wait for the finished product to see.
