We did not launch at Miller Park until almost 8am. There was a light breeze and the fog was not too bad. You could see Hog Island no problem. There were around a half dozen PB's already trolling around Pelican Point and the water looked real nice. Halfway to Hog we stopped for the first try at making bait and were rewarded with a huge jacksmelt12inches long and I thought OK today is going to be good. Two more stops yielded one more nice jackie. I caught some anchovies but they were not sticking and I think the # 12's were maybe just a bit large. When we reached the west side of Hog in the channel things were looking real good. I dropped that big baitfish down and started drifting down towards Pelican Point. Now, here comes the wind. I dont mean just a small increase. It went from a nice breeze to 20knt wind in about 10 minutes. At this rate we would be in Marshall before you knew it and I wasnt looking forward to that hard paddle uphill for 3miles. We went back up to Hog , ate lunch and considered options. In the lee of the cliffs on the west side of the bay things are very deceiving. A short paddle out into the wind comfimed what we thought. F@#k this, lets haul ass for home. 30 challenging minutes later we were at the launch. Paddling basically with the left side the whole way to keep the stern from being blown around. But, and I mean but, It was great to be on the water in conditions that are not the best sometimes so you can put yourself up against it and experience life in the fullest.

Pity the wind didnt let you take full advantage of those large smelt :smt011. Those smelt have a way of turning into Halibut :smt044...next time.. the tides look better later next week..
