Nice fish, a real beast! When you finally saw that baby it must of been surreal!

I've always been happy that lings don't bite, they'll give you the evil eye, but don't seem to have the brains to bite the hand that grabs them.

Beautiful fish,

Watch out for the little ones.I was fishing on a buddies PB and reaching for some pliers to let a dink ling go.As my hand went past, the little bugger turned and clamped onto the end of my thumb  :smt044. The little guy was only 15-18", but his little teeth were very sharp and clamped down tight. My buddies couldn't help me get it off because they were pissing their pants laughing. :smt005
It bled a lot but it was pretty funny.... :smt003

Way to go, TimoJam!  That's the biggest I've heard of caught from a yak.

My first post back from being out of town.

Awesome!

Nice job and thanks for the intel.  I'll be heading up that way in late September and I'll post up in Hookups when I do.

If you guys would ever read the politics forum, you would know that your trip has been canceled.

Yes, I found out shortly after the posting.  It looks like the DFG just posted the announcement on line the 19th and since I can't spend time on the Nor Cal Kayak site while at work and I have other things going on in the afternoons, I don't have time to keep up every day on-line like some.  I guess I was not up on the news fast enough.......

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.  Here are some answers
1. Yes, I did talk to myself as I fought the fish: Just enjoy the moment...
2.  20 Years ago I caught my first ling, around two feet.  I didn't know much about them so when it hit the deck I picked him up just like he was a bass--lip style.  It's funny, now.
3.  When I saw the fish for the first time, at about 8ft down, my whole body started tingling.  I just told myself to gaff him good the first time.
I'm boating to the Cape 8-24. I'll be going out of Trinidad in my yak on 8-25.  If you see me say hi.  I always wear a yellow jacket.
