I'm now hearing that ominous pop when peddling my ob.  The adjustment holes on the left side are now reamed out from #5-7.  Has anyone else had this kind of problem?  I am  using the turbo fins, love them, but I have no doubt that the extra torque is putting an unbearable load upon the locking mechanism.  Ironically, the right side holes are intact?  While searching the transom for the serial number I noticed that it ended in 07?  I bought this yak on June of 08, and since it was on the floor I didn't think to ask if this is the latest model, nor was it mentioned that  I was buying a late model.  Here is the whole # for those who would be in the know: CCm+384sI607.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yup, Just happened to mine ...only on the right side. For now I just used  zip-ties, but have ordered new ones (came in just too busy to go get). I rarely get to fish so I don't have any idea why it would wear out :smt044. I figured I would replace both and have spares.

I resisted the urge to move up to the turbo fins and it soundslike it was the right thing to do.  I have a Hobie Outfitter tandom although I rarley have anyone in the front seat, so It's really just a very heavy tank, powered by a single mirage drive.  I haven't had a single problem and my yak has logged lots of hours fishing.  All of the problems I have seen posted have a common thread; Turbo Fins.  Sounds like the tale of the tortoise and the hare may apply?

The same thing happened to me a few years ago with my first Hobie Adventure which was a used demo.  I could tell that the mirage drive pedals had been adjusted numerous times without making sure that adjustment pin was all the way in the hole before pedaling away (operator error).  The pin was slipping and impacting the next adjustment hole and weakening it.  If the pin slips enough times the holes can elongate or crack which it did.  California Canoe and Kayak (a Hobie dealer) in Oakland simply swapped my mirage drive since it was still under warranty.

I've had at least six other Hobies with mirage drives and turbo fins since then without any more problems.  I just now inspect the adjustment pins periodically to make sure they're in flush.

Hopefully, your drive is still under warranty.  If so, Hobie or your local dealer should replace it for free.  If not, I'd go ahead and order the replacement part.

Mind posting a pic of the breakage?  I'm guessing your talking about the holes that determine the foot position?  Haven't heard of them breaking before, but have heard about the teeth below the chain breaking off.  I think I heard of a stainless steel replacement for that piece though.

My problem has been resolved.  Hobie supplied two new plates and Pro Sports installed them, all under warranty.  I'm pleased with the quick responce by both parties.  Chuck E, I have never moved the settings since I bought this yak, and periodically I would check for proper depth seating.  A manager at  Pro Sports said that the new drives have a deeper pin and possibly stronger springs to keep the pin from popping out.  I didn't have the opportunity to speak about the repair so I don't know if I  have new springs or deeper pin--this drive is too new to tell?
What I do know is that as soon we are finished with our 40 days of rain I'll be on the water.
