My broker jumped off a building a few months back...  or, wait, maybe I pushed him!   :smt012

Put stock in your home and maybe a rental property or two is my advice.   :smt001

At the risk of ticking off brokers, why not just get an online account like ETrade, pick your own stocks?  The advice you can find is the same as the broker would use, and the commissions are usually a lot less.  If you dont want individual stocks you can always use ETFs and mutual funds as well.

I wouldn't mind brokers except, once you do busines with one, they hound you mercilessly to buy something you're not interested in, or share your name and address with others. I used to do deal with Schwab until they started to charge me for having an inactive account or not buying often enough or spending enough dollars. ETrade hasn't become a fat cat company yet.

I'm not a broker, but I can turn $8 into a six pack of Racer 5.  :smt007

Call 8oo 972-7022.  Ask for Larney Ford.  He is a Humboldt grad but despite that he has done a good job for me.

Etrade, Schwab, and I assume the other discount brokers used to be able to get you into IPOs.  The process seemed to be pretty hit or miss and you had to be prequalified before the offering.  The availability of IPO varied depending on what relationship the discount broker had with the investment bank involved with the IPO.

I've heard your best chance to get in a stock at the IPO price is having a lot of money and/or doing lots of trades in an account with one of the brokerages or investment banks involved with the offering.  Brokers used to hold IPO shares for their best customers.

I'm wondering what IPO you're interested in this market.  Energy?  Technology?

Now you are talking like a stock broker

Want my hot tip... the most precious commodity, more precious than gold, platinum, uranium, etc... is water... albeit clean water.  Clean water technologies, and water rights, will make you rich.
