Muir Beach 8/14

Got onto the water around 11.The shorebreak was a scary 6" with massive 1 footers every 10 min . Kirk had stopped Fort Point on the way an jigged us up 8 Shiners , so we elected to try for halis on the sand in the cove. within 2 hours 2 of the shiners were bitten in half, 1 decapitated, 1 with a fillet removed and 1 shredded . i was also dragging a 7" gulp swirley tailed grub. First half its tail was bitten off on a nice take down, then when dealing with the other rod, while laying on the bottom, a jumbo dungie grabbed and wouldnt let go.He wanted that Gulp! He lay on deck for awhile before finally deciding to let go. I think the reason for all the short strikes is that we were having to paddle a bit to generate drift as there was none to speak of. The tide was slack and very little wind, so the rods were in holders on all of the take downs and we couldnt let it run a little to get it deep in their mouth, as you would if you had the rod in your hand (Hobie envy). I honestly believe the halis were there, we just didnt stick em . Out of live bait, it was time to try the rocks. We paddled towards Tennessee and did most of our fishing about half way there. Now we were catching! Blacks, Grass and Cabbies. Some good grade fish except for the cabbies, which were undersize to 2" over. I kept 3 for tacos. Great day. want to do it again soon.....

That would be Awesome to get a nice Hali out of that cove...

Getting baits bit in half, decapitated, fileted... is a good rush.  Nicer of course to hookup, but at least you know you're close.
