I hate to even comment on such a hot topic,

Eric B,  Your comments are just as welcome as anybody else.  That's what this Forum is about.

And your point is quite valid. I feel this device would deter a mildly curious shark or even

in Blue Water John's experience, stopped a charging Tiger Shark. Fairly impressive if you ask me.

I don't know where the negativity comes from on this.

What's the harm in something that may prevent a Horrific event?

My only real concern was the " Rumor " that these units " Attract sharks " and having other Yak fishing

people by me.  It appears that there is more evidence out there that suggest they do not.

My other concern was screwing up the water I was fishing. Again, it appears the science says

it does not affect other game fish.

Thanks for the Links MickFish, but I don't think anything is going to work in a situation like that :smt009

It seems the GWS talk strirs up emotion in us all.  We know that we have a better chance getting Killed

on the way to the Launch than paying up to the Land Lord, but still,  it's there.

Being The land Lord and it's food supply are protected, we can only expect to see more of them, and

more hopefully, just have Friendly encounters  :smt006 :smt106

Danglin, I only meant it's a hot topic because there are no rights and wrongs when it comes to great white sharks.  I think that's why there's so much emotion involved in discussions, because even the so called experts know so little about them.  From what I've read the two things that stick out in my mind is that sharks have different personalities, like people.  Some are more reckless, some more cautiios, etc.  That, and they come back to the same areas like clockwork some years.  And some years they don't!

The shark shield reproduces the electric attack/defense of electric rays.  All sharks in california have encountered electric rays by the time they grow up, and have learned from experience the unpleasant results of tangling with them.  From a distance where a shark could detect the field but not so strongly that it's uncomfortable yet, the shark will think it is an electric ray and lose interest.  At least ideally.  ;)

Well, when you wear it around your ankle and stand up on the surfboard (or lay on it to paddle with your feet on the board), then one of the electrodes is not in the water and it cannot work.  If that test had  one of the electrodes on top of the board, out of the water, then one certainly wouldn't expect it to work.  If it was in the water and the company says the test is invalid because it 'moved', then I'll call BS.  It can't work out of the water any better than our FFs can...
