I've been thinking that I need a Tarpon 160 for the paddling I'm doing.  A guy just offered me to trade my old 2 hatch Pro for a fairly new (compared to my Pro) 2 hatch Tarpon 160.  Am I making a mistake paddle-wise?  I'm looking for a long distance machine.

You may possibly regret picking up the additional 2" of beam with the T160. I know that I do every once in a while, when I have to straddle the boat. Otherwise, the T160 is a better fishing platform overall. This is purely my opinion ( and you know what they say about opinions :) based on owning at times: an SP TW, a Scupper Classic and a T160.

Do it...
Scott

P.S. Look up "cumbersome" in the dictionary. Pictured is a guy putting a T160 on a roof rack. Significantly more cumbersome than the SP when off the water, slightly less maneuverable on the water.

I think I'm going to do it.  The Scupper cockpit seems cramped these days now that I have all kinds of crap.  It used to be that all I had was me and a pole tucked under my leg.  Now I take four poles, tons of tackle, a FF, a GPS, and various tools. It's a friggin floating tackle shop now, and I don't think the old scupper cockpit was really designed for that.

Thanks for the advice, Scott.

Hi DW:

I use Alexs' Scupper Classic and I'm happy with the Weight and Speed. I keep my Tackle to a Min. and fish with two poles.
I would try to keep it as light a possible but, it's your back! :smt044 I also
use the factory rack but, I would need to upgrade for a Tarpon. Maybe you could trade for a short time and try it out?

get the cobra expedition that is for sale on craigslist!

18 feet of pure speed.

I have a tarpon now, got the dual of scotts, but have not really moved to it, still using the SPTW, but it has been fished and it is very nice.
