I'm going to Van Damme 7/20-7/23. Are the Halibut biting there? What should I be fishing for? How deep? Where do I go exactly? Are curly tail grubs on leadheafs good? Swimbaits?
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

Hi Yaker:

I use rootbeer metalflaked Scampi Tails w/ a 1 1/2 Owner saltwater leadhead. Fish the N. kelp Beds Lee side. I just go with drift
and bounce the Scampi between the kelp fronds. I usually go for Lings.
                                                                      Good Luck

Sounds like you might not be familiar with the area, if you do venture out of the cove and go north be very carefull, the bottom structure just outside and to the north creates some pretty dangerous seas, keep an eye out and give them a wide berth.

I've never heard of any halibut being caught in the area.

South of the outside group of wash rocks there are some pinnacles that have produced lings and vermillions for us.

Van damme is great, enjoy and be safe.

I also haven't ever heard of Van Damme producing halibut, but there's pretty good rockfishing on the outside either north or south.  My favorite is Colby reef off Stillwell Point.  Its a long paddle though, about 1.5 miles due south. It can't handle much wind either.

You're good to go with the advice of the three men above.

Looking forward to hearing back about your trip.   :smt001

Also, I could probably fish out there on the 20th if you need some local knowledge.   Send me a PM if you're interested.
