That sounds awesome Mike, thanks for the invite!!  I'm sure Drew would be up for it as well.  I'll be back in town the 27th, so I'll PM you when we get back.  Take care,

hey, Mickfish-
great report!    Your report brings me back 30 years, when i was a kid, playing around on a gravelbar on the Russian River.   Along came 2 flyfishing kayakers, and in 15 minutes, they caught and released a dozen fish.  Back then, if i caught even 1 fish in a day, it was a successful trip, and these guys were so non-chalant about catching those fish they could release them like they just didnt care!

Right then, i promised myself i would one day be a fly fisher and also a kayaker, and one day I would do the same thing on the Russian.

My promise is half fulfilled.  I've been fly fishing for 15 years and am now getting into kayaking.   Maybe one day, I too will fish the Russian by kayak and amaze some kid playing around on a gravelbar.

As to actually doing this, can you put in and take out from the same location, or does one have to arrange a shuttle?

Yes you can there are a few summer dams on the river allowing you to paddle up river quite a ways. There are also a few areas where you can do a short drift and kart your yak back to the start on a gravel road.
