sounds like Groveland area is one of your regular places.   Much easier getting in from Groveland than driving all the way from here.

Fall River is the only Blue Ribbon water i have not fished yet.   Do you do that by kayak on your own, or do you go with a guide?    I must do that some day, though i am not generally big on going with guides, although i have made exceptions.

Have you fished Anderson, Coyote and Calero?   Do they fish well?

I am also interested in rediscovering the East Bay parks JTF suggested.   I spent lots of time in the EBRPD before taking up fly fishing and kayaking.  Now its time to go back with a different perspective and set of tools.     I just went to Del Valle for the first time 3 weeks ago and have yet to see Shadow Cliff and Don SomethingorAnother.   Chabot offers lots of possibilities too.   All worth checking out.    The usual problem -  so many places to fish, but so little time.     But, its better  than having lots of time and no place to fish.

One of these days...

Yeah, I get to Groveland fairly often.  Some day, I'll have a decent idea of where to find more than just bluegill but for now, I'm enjoying them every chance I get.  Next time out, I plan to invite some of them to dinner...

For Fall River...I'm almost always in my kayak on the upper portion (below Spinner Fall Lodge).  I did go out once with a guide a few years ago.  The San Jose Fly Shop had a group fishing trip there and I went with them.  Three nights at Spinner Fall Lodge, two days with a guide, and a half day in a boat on our own.

I fished each day with a different guide, but they both put in near Circle 7 which is way below the part I fish solo.  I had fun, learned stuff, and caught fish but I really wanted a guide on the upper part.

The upper part's current is plenty slow enough to EASILY be able to boogie upstream all day long with no problems.  I've gone probably 3+ miles upstream a couple times in the same day.  Much easier going upstream in a kayak, than in a metal boat being pushed by an electric trolling motor (very few people use gas motors on that river).

The water in the upper part is crystal clear regardless of depth and some pockets are easily 20+ feet deep (and there are plenty of spots where it's maybe two feet deep).

Kastmasters and SuperDupers work great for spin fishing there.  I've had good luck as well with a variety of flies including some I've figured out that aren't on the lists you'll see from the local fly shops that give reports for that river.

That's cool.   Is there public access to launch the kayak on the upper river?   I think it would be such an awesome experience to kayak and fish on the Fall River.
