Whats with the baby rockfish bro? :smt011 I know there is no size limit but you should let that thing go. Especially if the fishing is no good there, dont take the babies.

Although I don't necessarily disagree with your comments, they are pretty brazen for a first post.  You might want to lose the tone as this is a pretty friendly bunch that support their brethren.

Sounds like you had a great trip to Crapitola. That place has always been pretty salty for me. But it's good to know that there are some fish out there. Glad that you got into them too. Seeing that fish cooking on the open fire is making my mouth water. Good job...

Freddie

Bambora-

Nice first post... Can't wait to see what you have in mind for your second... Another flame job maybe... you should just go back to being a lurker.

Salty.

Jrsyboy, great post man. I loved it. Don't worry bout Bambora. I don't think he got the part about it came up basically DOA, but if you don't want to keep anything that comes up with the stomach out, and of course canaries and yelloweyes, just pick up one of those shelton fish descender's and send her back down. Or ,if legal species, use em for ling bait. :smt002

Bambora,

The little guy got the hooks in his gills and was bleeding very badly or it would have gone back.  Sorry I offended you, my apologies.  But it didn't go to waste and he did make a very nice ceviche.

To everyone else, thanks! You have no idea (or you might if you are married) how satisfying it was to walk back to the campsite with actual fish when all my wife says is "why do you need that fishing _______ (insert rod, reel, line, lure, hooks, stringer, etc.....) when you never catch anything.  I actually put the one picture on her computer as a screen saver till the got mad.  And yes, it was worth it!

Freddie, it was literally the fact that this guy Ron took pity on me and told me where the structure was. Otherwise I'd have would have been blanked a second day.

Thanks again!

Guess I missed that part.  And now I do disagree with Bambora's comments.  I still stick by my initial statement that he needs to tone it down a bit, especially for being a first time poster.

Then there's the quite valid argument that if you prefer the shorties, it is generally better for the fishery to keep 10 of them, versus 10 of the bigun's. Big fish are in general more productive of offspring, and there is a lot more resources invested in a big fish than in a little fish. Personally, I'd have used it for ling bait for a bit, and then given it to the crabs. Counting it against my limit, of course...

Regards,
Scott

J-Boy-

No need to apologize to anybody for anything that you did out there. You had a great day on the water and had fun doing it. Nothing wrong there. I'm still glad that you got some good intel and got some fish. I've fished every little hump out there. Don't ask me why I choose to punish myself but I still go out there every now and again. One of these days, I'll get lucky... hopefully...

Tight lines,

Freddie

Yeah, I've heard that argument Scott and at the surface it seems to be valid.  I just don't know enough about either side so I should probably keep my mouth shut.  As once said, it is better to keep your mouth shut and let somebody think you're an idiot than open it and remove all doubt.  So here I sit! :smt095

BTW, solid work jrsyboy.  I'd be tickled with those results.  Hell, I've never landed a legal ling before.  Job well done.  Keep up the good stuff.

Michael
