Just wondering what everyones favorite Rod-Reel & line is? Line weights-baitcaster or spinning? What is the one you use in most conditions. What is a good rod length for a yak. Sold Bass boat buying a yak. looking for info.
Thanks Jack

Hey Jack,
I like to use a 7' rod as do a lot of others. As far as reels go I prefer a baitcaster type over spinners  . I have some old penns that have served me very well. I have never had an issue with my old jig master. I also like the gear ratio and the drag system. It also has quick takedown for cleaning and re lubing (after a spin in the surf) I have my eye on the Calcutta series and might upgrage when funds are better.  As far as line goes I like the braided
types and I use spider wire. It had less drag when drifting due to the small diameter and it will allow you to feel the bottom   better.
The braided lines will cut through kelp and they have no stretch 20# is a good choice. Don't get to high of test as it make it difficult to break off when the need arises.  These are just my ideas and I am sure others have other ideas. Kind of like Ford vs Chev.

Hi Jack,

I also use a 7 ft rod.  Tigerstick baitcaster, BWC 2200, medium light, 12-30 lb line rating.  It is my all around rod for trolling, fishing bait off the bottom for halibut, or mooching.  I don't have the money to buy a separate rod and reel for each type of fishing and this rod seems to work well.  I use an Abu 6500 and it seems to work ok with this rod.  It might work better with a drag and handle upgrade.  I have it spooled with 20lb fireline  (Recommended by fishermans warehouse for this reel).
