Of course it doesn't matter if its a double hatch or tankwell, a good buddy of mine wants one real bad and we are looking out for one.  He might even be into a scupper pro but then he heard that nobody has ever beat me in a race on one of those. :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  They usually end up buying a tarpon. :smt003 :smt003  Just kidding ST.   :smt003 :smt003

I'm considering selling my Perception Search 15 which is very similar to the Tarpon. It has two molded in rod holders and I installed a Scotty's swivel rod holder in front. This is a fast (narrow like the Tarpon) boat and because Perception is a sister company of Wilderness Systems it has the similar cockpit layout. The yak is a swirled blue/white. I would like to get 600 with the Scotty rod holder. The new yaks are 900-1100 plus about 80 dollars in tax.

I am looking at something wider (and slower) like an Xfactor.
Everybody dies, not everybody lives. What did you do today?

John,

It could very well be that you are a strong paddler. No sarcasm intended, and not meant to be a slight on the T160. For what it's worth, using GPS measurements my previous Scupper Pro and my current T160 are within .1 mph of each other in an all out sprint = 6.0 and 6.1 mph respectively. The T160 does fast cruise about .2 mph faster than the Scupper Pro,(4.6-4.7 vs 4.4-4.5) but the SP seems to accelerate faster than the T160. Not particularly surprising, in that it has a lower weight and lower wetted surface area. I'd think that in a 200 meter sprint, the SP would give the T160 a very, very serious run for the money.

Scott,
I was trying just to give you a hard time figuring you were a diehard scupper guy.  Then recently through the grapevine I heard that you purchased a t160.  I was very interested to know your review of the both of these kayaks.

Any hoot, your testing of the two kayaks is very informational and well appreciated.  Thanks for that.  John

My buddy has decided to purchase a tricked out angler edition of the t160 from outback adventures in larkspur.  Those things are sharp.  I'm kinda jealous of the new kayak he's getting.  My double hatch t160 is in bad shape these days.  She's been rode hard and put away stinkin.  jtf

Hey John - I just now noticed the "Just kidding ST. :smt003 :smt003" I figured you were just busting on the Scupper Pro folks in general ;) It's nice to know I'm being singled out :smt003

I'm not sure how much longer your T160 is good for, so you may not be interested in the following. I'm getting a set of Yakima/Werner aluminum foot braces to replace the flexy plastic originals. They aren't all that expensive, and will make the boat even more solid feeling: http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=WFB%20W&src=champ
