Ouch, thats quite a boo-boo.  Depending on your situation it might not be that bad.  If your flushmounts came with foam gaskets, take the rod holders out and use the gaskets as a template to see what the hole is going to look like if its pointing the right direction.  The gasket might be big enough to cover all holes (both right and wrong)

If the only thing that isnt covered is an old bolt/rivet hole you can put some goop on the hole, and cover it with an aircraft rivet wit a small washer and it will be fine.  You could even use "extra" hole to mount a pad eye near your rod holders and use the pad eye for rod leashes.

If the gasket covers everything, but barely in some areas, make sure to seal both sides of the gasket with lots of goop so it doesnt leak.  Good luck!  If your overwhelmed and too freaked out to try to fix it come on up and Ill see what can be done.

You have lots of options. One having one pointed in isn't bad if the rod isn't in your way. It is easier to troll if your rod tip is closer to your kayak. Every, spinner, flasher or do hickey you put on your line increases drag and if off to the side will make you paddle on one side to compensate. Every time you coast you will turn.

If you can't spin them in the same hole and put some goop in the old holes, make a mounting plate to cover the hole. You could use wood, mahagony is best because it actually reacts beneficially with salt water or go to Tap plastics and get some of that white plastic board about 1/4 inch thick and form it to cover the hole and then center your rod holder in that. It will make a smart accent to your rod holder. Mistakes are no big deal, the idea is to make the repair look so good that people will think you meant to do that!

Both Mahagony and plastic can be cut and sanded with wood tools and blades. You can even sand a bevel into the plastic board. I use Marine Goop for stuff like that. It holds and can be removed. If I have access I use stainless bolts otherwise it's rivits.
