The wife and I are gonna consolidate down soon from three SOT kayaks, two mainstreams and one perception caster 12.5,  to two matching lightweight kayaks, I need them for fishing occasionally and the wife wants them to double for recreational use at Nimbus etc.  Any comments on Mini-X's versus Cobra Ecape kayaks, we are leaning heavy to the Mini X's.

Can't help you with the Corba, but we love our Mini's. I suggest you and the wife demo both kayaks before you buy.

I don't have any experience with the Cobra either, but I have a Mini and would recommend it. It's a light, good performing, fun boat for fishing and recreation, especially on rivers like the American, Russian, etc.  I usually use a bigger boat on lakes (P15) for speed and efficiency, but the Mini paddles pretty well for a small boat in flat water, obviously at slower speeds than the bigger, faster boats.  Good luck.

I live near Natoma, PM me if you want to hook-up to test paddle the Mini.

I have never paddled a mini-x but as far as the cobra escape I wouldn't recommend it for paddling any distance if your tall, it was way too small for me (I'm 6'2" 195lbs) The specs of the kayak say 240 weight load but I felt like I was pushing it with my weight. There wasn't any room for my long legs either.

Do they have to Match? If not I would get the mini for you and get your wife a Venus.
If you want a test paddle I have both my wife likes the Mini but it is a little wide and her paddle strokes are too shallow, she paddles the Venus with a lot less effort allowing you more time on the water.

Hey, thanks for the replies and offers, will take all into consideration said, probably gonna do the mini-X's after all is said and done, probably the fish/dive models with 4 rod holders and hatches, we did a day trip yesterday to Truckee to see the mini's in person at a Malibu dealer, we both like what we saw, not interested in a speedy craft, got one now with the perception 12.5 caster, but stability mostly and a quality built kayak plus I need a lighter fishing kayak for carrying down levies, the mini appears to be such, I sure like that big hatch right in front of seat for storage for fishing trips. I mostly local fish rivers for smallmouth, not paddling any great distance, 1/2 mile at most, usually dump in off the levies in the holes I want to fish. From what I could see yesterday, the mini-x's quality is some above the cobra. The wife is a power paddler and leaves me in the dust most of the time on outings in our current mainstream yaks.  Thanks.

Well, I sold my perception caster 12.5 last week, and got one mini-x ordered and on the way, should be here tomorrow. If the wife likes it, we are ordering another for her, if not we will look at the venus, etc.

Got the Mini-X, test paddled last weekend, wife and I both like it fine, fits in back of my Tacoma bed w/tailgate down, beats carrying on the racks anytime,  its stable on the water, tracks decent for small yak, sits high on the water, dry ride,  good enough for my fishing anyway, plus super light for carry up and down the river levies. Wife is gonna keep her two Mainstream Tropics, she says they are still a bit lighter, and easier for her to transport and carry, with two mini-x yaks they would have to be stacked sideways on a roof rack, too wide at 33.5" for strapping down flat. Guess we a 3 yak family still. Mounting a Cannon rod holder for trolling tonite on the Mini-X.

Welcome to Team Mini-X

I second that welcome! Team Mini-X seems to be growing.

When's the Mini-fest?

I love my Mini-X too.  Would love to see some pictures when you're done rigging it.

We used to sell both and this is not a contest, the Mini-X is a MUCH better boat.

Welcome to the Mini-X fan club. And don't forget, if you want to get rid of that other thing and add a second Mini-X, they do stack nicely.
