I appreciate the offer but I would not have the gear to melt lead in that kinda quantity.....I use a propane torch, and an old crucible with a handle to pour my lead heads and I do it on my stovetop with the vent fan running full blast......

Derek... I know you've probably read up on lead and the potential health effects... but I gotta say (being an Industrial Hygienist)... melting and working with lead in your kitchen where you prepare and possibly consume food is a bad idea.

You'd be much better off doing this outdoors.

Should probably have mentioned that I cove the stovetop with a piece of linoleum to protect it, have the vent hood fan on full blast and wear a respirator when doing this..........STILL not the smartest thing in the world I have to admit but I am obsessive about clean-up and don't like the though of sharing lead fumes ???

If 18 years in the photolab industry has not killed me.................What were we talking about again??

Derek

Also, using a propane torch, you are at greater risk of creating lead fume (inhalable) through excessive heating than if using a melt pot with more of a defined temperature range.

The wife and I make out own wooden lures.  Here are a couple examples:
Note: sorry we don't sell them, we do this as a hobby to share in something else besides fishing, besides, as soon as you sell one and money is involved, it is now work, and we hate work  :smt003

Surf Hunter... that is some incredible work.  Very nice!  I hear ya about not wanting to turn it into work... it can happen very easily if you're not careful.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks all!  Yeah, it is a fun hobby the actually works, here is a striper I caught on one of our pencil popper. It really adds another dimension when you hook up on something you made.

Hey Rory,
I airbrush, after I sand the seal the blank, I prime, then paint with an airbrush.  When the paint is done, I coat it with a two part epoxy to protect the finish.

I already know about Bataeff Salvage...Last time I checked they did not have and bulk surgical tubing or bungie but I will check again as it was a while ago.  It is my GO-TO place for aluminum and stainless steel blanks that I use to make my own ab irons.

Most outfitters are a bit pricey for my budget I am afraid.

I keep hearing about a great salvage yard in Petaluma but I keep forgetting the damn name before I google it.

That would be M. Maselli and Sons, where the "Mythbusters" shop once in a while.
