So, i saw that Outback in Marin is having a demo days next Saturday, the wife and I want to sign up but are not sure how it works, since we do not have our own kayaks and are doing this to figure out what we want, what do we do about gear during the demo?  Heck, we don't even have wetsuits or pdf's yet.

Any help or ideas as to what to expect?

My wife and I went to the demo days at Outback last year and bought two kayaks!

You can register either by calling the store or by going online. When you get there they will give you each a paddle and a pfd. You can also get a wet suit if you want one. Last year it was nice and warm and we were perfectly comfortable paddling in shorts and a t-shirt.

The store is right on the creek and they will already have dozens of boats lined up along the shore. You can talk to one of the attendants about what you are looking for, and they will guide you to a particular boat, or you can just jump on any empty boat and start paddling.

My wife and I tried literally dozens of boats out that day, both sit on top and sit inside. Of course for fishing you want a SOT. Paddling these boats back to back really gave us a great feel for their differences and what we liked and disliked. After a while we started narrowing our choices and re-paddled a few of the same boats.

When we went to the event, I thought we would just try the boats out, but my wife saw the look in my eye and said "Let's get our boats today"  :smt007 I love that woman.  :smt044

The demo days also has food and a raffle and if it is like last year, all the boats are on sale and you get a discount on any accessories you buy too. You may find used boats cheaper, or a new one on sale for a few bucks cheaper at some random place, but for convenience and the ability to chat with really knowledgeable people while trying a BUNCH of different boats, the demo days can't be beat.

Have fun! When my wife and I left Outback last year, we had purchased a Wilderness Systems T 140 for her, and an OK Prowler 15 for me, along with paddles, seats, and various accessories.  :smt006

Thanks FJ,
That is exactly what I needed to know.  Unfortunately we don't have the cash right now to buy them as we just spent it all on a trip to La Paz in late July, but we are planning on doing it at the first of the year and might as well hit up the demo days thing now so we know what we want.

Thanks again!
