Cool trip Bryce!!!  Nice report.

Kayak fishing abroad is one of my dreams.  I want to be one of the first guys here to post a kayak fishing report from the Philippines.  There's gotta be some good fishing near at least one of the 7,000+ islands.  Any of you guys game to plan 2008 expedition? :smt003

I'm tentatively supposed to go to the Philippines this winter.  What you got in mind?   :smt002

May be a bit crowded in our kayaks though.

Forget that ...  we can get a local banka and head offshore.  Do a Google search on "san vicente fishing philippines".  I think we could put together a killer trip there.

Sorry for the threadjack.  But Chuck started it.   :smt005

Willy (Starlifter) spent two weeks fishing in the Philippines recently. You might want to pick his brain for some spots.

Right on Zee... That's so cool!

Did you bring back any cool Japanese fishing gear or lures?

Yeah, new rod and reel along w/ 4 lures. I'll post some pics later. Japanese lures are pretty much all super tech and cost. When that big Suzuki broke me off and took my $17 lure w/ him I wasn't sure if I was more pissed about the fish or lure!?

Funny you should mention that. Although it's not kayak fishing, I saw a Japanese bass fishing TV show and did a trip there. Looked awesome! Would love to see the NCKA version!!

LOVE the sashimi shot ...but where's the bowl of rice and the soyu????
Being chowed on right under the camera! :smt003 Plus about 10 other dishes the wife's mom put together.. I miss Japan already!!! :smt010

How'd that sashimi taste. It looks like it tasted kind of sweet... almost striperish. How much cash or yen did you drop on fishing equipment. I hear stuff is really expensive over there.

It was awesome, really similar to Tai snapper or Halibut sashimi. Yeah, gear is pretty pricey. I got a sweet bass rod and reel set up for $170 which wasn't too bad but lures are nuts. Average was about $18. They are pretty Gundam/Transformer cool though. :smt005 Megabass make this lure w/ an adjustable lip that makes it go from high/low splash popper to crankbait. http://www.megabass.co.jp/XPOD/

Awesome report, Zeelander.  Im definitely jealous.

I have always wanted to kayak fish in Okinawa.  I spent 4 years there and married an Okinawan.  There is some beautiful water/reefs there.  Similar to P.I., I assume, since it is not that far.

Find some if you can. Kyushu is big time Suzuki territory. :smt002

Thank Z for sharing the info. It gives a different experience of fishing.
