Had a chance to catch a ride on a friend’s boat for an overnight trip South of San Francisco.
I needed to try out my new Sea Sniper Reef Pro 130 and this was the perfect trip to do it.
The water temp was around 62 and the visibility was anywhere from 8-15'.
At our first stop we were treated to a nice kelp bed but no sightings.
We headed to our next location and decided to send in a diver to see how things looked.
Chris with the skills of a ninja, sees a few slugs appear beneath him, dips down below the kelp stringers to make a sideways shot, burying the slip tip with his 60" pro from 10' away.
With little struggle the 42lber makes his way to the boat for a proper gutting/gilling and then placed on ice.
His fish was not very long, but thicker than any WSB I have ever seen, a true PIG!
With myself and Amadeo still without fish we quickly gear up and try our luck.
After about 20 minutes or so and a sole sighting, we head back to the boat.
Our third spot was a place where fish had been seen recently so we had a good feeling about it.
Once anchored up we could just sense the fishiness around this spot.
I was slowly making my way from kelp room to kelp room when I happened upon a school of about 10 smaller fish.
It was agonizing to let these guys swim by knowing that they were just legal and I have not shot a WSB in over 2 years. I kelp telling myself I would be rewarded for this and just when I began to doubt it, a slightly larger grade swam into view and gave me a nice shot.
Thwapppp!!! And the first trigger pull on my new gun stones the fish solid.
YES!!! The laser like shot severed the spine and then cleared the fish. 15lbs G/G.
I was surprised that it had less recoil than my Rabitech and she tracked beautifully, with a clean trigger pull.
Stringing the fish/gun, I started my way back.
On the swim to the boat, I saw Amadeo had taken a nice fish as well.
Whoo-hooo! Limits for all three divers.
Three fish on the boat, Three SEA Sniper guns that took their first WSB (Chris's new personal 60" Pro with an amazing wood grain, Amadeo's “Kelp Monster”, and my Reef Pro), and three guys that could not stop smiling.
I have always said that great things happen when you surround yourself with great people and this trip was no exception.
Man I love the taste of a juicy WSB fillet. Even had some sashimi style last night and it was excellent.
After 2 years with no WSB taken I can truly say this one was well deserved.

Sweeet! This post is going to make me lose sleep. I am going out to try for my first WSB this weekend. Thanks for not posting more pics of the SeaSnipers that would have been dream over-load.

Hi Divers:

Sweet, I should have never sold my Dive gear! :smt044
Your dive at the  Chan. Isl. was  a National Geo. Moment. I have Dove Anacapa and it was a trip of a live time. Santa Barb. is a great town except for the traffic on 101.

Hey Tino,
Welcome to the only sane board around. Nice write up.  I heard the skipper on that boat was a prick. :smt005 What a trip. Here's to many more.
