Me and The Wife are going to be at a meeting near Marshall May 27/28. We plan on bringing the yaks and getting onto Tomales Bay either the morning of the 27th or the afternoon of the 28th (or both!).

Anyone going to be around?  :smt006

Anyone got any advice/tips?  :smt102

Bring a sabiki to catch some smelt or shiners for live bait. Both are usually pretty abundant around the weed lines just off shore of the rockwall at Marshall. Not sure if the 'but season is in full swing in Tomales like it is in the bay, but it's worth a shot. If you're launching from the Marshall area I'd stay around there rather than heading all the way over to Hogg Island. I've seen medium sized 'buts chasing baitfish right there at the rockwall while fishing for sharks.

If you happen to catch a really low tide you can flip over some rocks and get midshipman to use for shark bait, if you're into that. Otherwise big chunks of sardine or mackerel will get you some nice leopards in that area, or a possible encounter with an angel shark.

If nothing else - if you got an ultra-lite it's fun just catching mackerel and smelt.

Good luck!

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I would also go with a quick release anchor system as the current can get rippin' through there.
If you get there at low tide DO NOT try to launch directly at the boat launch. Go to the left side and head towards the sand, then walk to the water. The muck at the launch cost me my flip-flops when I sank to my knees in the stuff.
Same area applies if you return at low tide.
If you plan on eating right there at Nick's Cove take out a small loan first. Cha-Ching!!!
