Launched @ 7 a.m. sharp on very very calm seas. The wind stopped blowing yesterday so I knew today would be the best conditions seen around here since the opener.  Fortunately was able to take the morning off with the guarantee I'd be back working @ noon.

Gorgeous day, it's been pretty cool so I wore my 4/3 surfsuit & I soon found I was sweating my butt off.  Went shirtless for the rest of the morning & wasn't even cold, I was closer to being hot.  Gotta love that!

Fished in 15'-60' FOW & found generally cloudy conditions inside & outside.  Caught 3 grass rockfish all pretty decent sized, around 12" each & pretty plump.  They just weren't what I was lookin for so I gave them back to mother ocean.

At one point I saw birds diving 400 yards further out but I didn't go after them.  Waited a few minutes & heard plop plop plop.  A school of anchovies was hopping around even slightly jumping out of the water so I ripped of my jig, grabbed my 5" croc spoon & started casting into the bait.  Got nada.  You never know on that one, I once caught a 32.5" Ling that way.

Saw a fair amount of seals & even jellyfish, which I thought don't show in colder water but I guess I'm wrong on that. This weekend should be INSANE with calming conditions.  Several days of NO WIND should make for great fishing if the predicted west swell is small.

Good Luck,
PJ

PJ -

That spot looks familiar. Thanks for the report. Think I fished it several years ago. Only 3 days and your freezer will be filled at the Flemish Reef.  :smt003

scott,

that's the real reason I'm sacrificing perfectly good fish, so we can receive from the altar @ Limekiln!!!!!!

j.

sorry the wind is still blowing up there, it has to let up soon.  i would think this bubble of high pressure should even shut down the mighty santa cruz wind machine in the next day or 2, hopefully.

Great scenery  :smt007 There's nothing like experiencing the calmness of the ocean...even the pics don't do it enough justice :smt002
