went out on a pb with my friend alain and went for halibut out of oyster pt marina. it i was our first time launching there and its great. no lines for anything and easy in and out. we barely started the motor and we were already in the fishing grounds. i brought food so we ate and listened to the radio.

the halibut are there as i caught one on a anchovy at 18" but it was short so he went back in. we watched another boat get a small one as well and i hooked a small batray that took my line for several long runs. each time he got neat the stern he got scared and took off. it was fun and i hooked part of his wing so it was easy to unhook him and let him go.

i had a fish on within an hour of leaving the marina. this never happens to me. today must have been a day for miracles. lots of boats out too and saw a couple of kayakers.

there are halibut there and if i were to go again i would work shallow, i mean like 6 feet or less. i caught the small halibut in 10-12 feet of water but warmer is better i think. we heard one guy hooked a 28lber in 6 feet of water but we were heading home by then.

i used a halibut rig from the store. i was lazy and wanted one already rigged with a treble hook and a single just above it with a 3 way swivel and for the drift i used a 4oz weight. bait for me was only frozen anchovies, non tray type. (im cheap)

nice day to be on the bay. there is actually fish in there! good time to get out there and drag a anchovy around the bottom.
