Anybody going out this Saturday (May 10) ? I am not going up to the property this weekend. Staying home to work on the  "honey do" list. So, I am thinking I might need to take the kayak out and get some of the dust off of it Saturday morning.

I may be going pig hunting this weekend up in Colusa County, but if not, I'm game for whatever...

I'd like to go try to get my first halibut this Saturday, if you want to give a few pointers to a newbie saltwater kayak fisherman. I was going to sneak out on my own first and make my first embarassing mistakes without witnesses, but WAF requires accomplices to the hunt. Yes, my wife actually asked me to look for an NCKA hookup! Not bad, eh?  :smt001

I was thinking of Alameda Rock Wall or the Oakland Airport launch where the guys got those Sturgeon back in January. Advice is, of course, most welcome. Thanks.

I am thinking of going to ARW this Saturday, just half day, for Halibut probably. Need to build up muscle for the big ocean, Rock Fish.

Thanks

Andy:  Your wife sounds like a keeper.  Always best to buddy up, esp. if you are somewhat inexperienced.

Hey, it's also more fun with a pal.....remember they might be the witness to your 30 lb flattie,  If you do get in trouble they can help you and vice versa.

Andy, ARW would be my suggestion for a newbie looking for a halibut. Easy lauch and lots of flats to drift over. If I go, that is where I am headed Saturday morning.

OK. ARW it is. I know how to get there, too. I hear Mike's Bait in Oakland is the place to get some live shiners. Or maybe the shop in Alameda near ARW. Any idea what time they open up?

What time would you like to launch?

I'd be up for ARW Saturday as well, assuming nobody is going out for rockfish/Ling nearer to piller point.  Damn wind!

Anybody up for an early attempt for live bait in Alameda?  I've only done that once, and could use practice with the new castnet.

Tides not looking that great for the bay. Fishings not gonna be impossible but I'd suggest covering lots of ground and highly visible baits.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Hey, Rick. I'd love to help with the castnet bait thing. Where & when?

Andy, I've only done this once, so if you are looking for instruction, you might want to look elsewhere.

That said, I'd be happy to have you along!  When we did it before, we got off @ Hegenberger exit, there's a frontage road that's the first right west of the freeway, and there's a couple places to do it there.  I'll be in an old grey nissan P/U with a white commercial shell on it.   Around 5:30-6:00?

With luck, we got live bait.  If not, I got frozen.

I'll PM you (and anyone else who wants it)with my cell #
