I'm getting reaady to buy a fishfinder for my yak, but I'm not sure what the best units are.  I primarily fish saltwater.  Any advise?

Try using the search feature on this site.  You'll find lots of info.

I have a humminbird 535, my only issue with it is a little moisture on the inside of the screen.  It probably came from leaving it sealed in a ziploc bag while it was still a bit wet. 

Now I carry it in its own small mesh bag.

Definetly look for something waterproof,(connector as well) Do you want GPS/FF combo? FF only?

I just got hooked up with electronics for this year & will be using a Humminnbird Piranha 215 (think that's the number) dual beam portable. I like the size & portability of the thing, but haven't yet used it on the water.
 I like that the whole unit & transducer fits in my plano box, where it will live during launches & landings.

I have a Garmin 400C and got a deal on it, so if I had to pay full pop I would probably go with one of their lower priced models. I have had to work out some bugs, like gooping the tansceiver to the inside of the hull. Overall pretty happy with being able to read the structure below me, would like to have had the map feature or GPS if I had to do it again, but with that comes more money and if you dump the kayak it could be devastating for this investment.  Cheers
