I'm a Ben Lomond guy, been there for 25 years.

There a lots of folks that fish the SC area and they catch fish.

Give it a try, most of the tips for hooking up are available on this site!!

Hey,
I would totally agree with Allen and have seen and caught many fish off of the Lane. If you head out and north towards the next two coves up, there are many rockfish and halibuts off Mitchells. If you head south towards Pleasure Point you may get lucky, I caught a 35" @ 20# halibut just up from the Sewer Peak point break there. The Capitola and Santa Cruz harbor pier's both have free handouts in their rental and tackle shops of all of the reefs and landmarks to use for all the people who rent the skiffs there, but they will give you one if you buy a couple of things I'm sure. They are also usually willing to share info on what is hitting, where they are hitting, and what to use. Just look at all the pictures on the wall and that is evidence there are plenty of fish out there to be had, just a longer wait that Monterey sometimes :fish I like Monterey a little better, I think it is an easier launch and good fishing.
Do your homework and for sure have a handheld radio just in case with all the knowledge of the safety channels, we operate off of Channel 69 and most in the group can be hailed if on the water for you to hook up with. Your success will be based off of your awareness of other things like surf, swell direction, crazy powerboaters throwing a 4-5' wake just yards from you, Sea lion bigger than your kayak and hungry for your fish, your tackle, and know your DFG regulations. Do not use a stringer for your fish and stow them in a burlap bag you can wet down and keep them in your boat. No need to leave a trail of blood or scent for the Sea Dogs or Mr. Whitey. Good luck and good fishing.   Mike/Solsrf1
