Does anyone have the time and desire to educate us newbs on the main rockfish lauches for this year? Where are the best locations? pros and cons of each place. Maybe the people that are going that don't mind company could list which location they will be at. Im in Roseville near Scaramento. What is the closest good spot for me? Is it Santa Cruz? I will probably be bringing a couple of other guys with me. I am going to CSBA so I don't want to have to drive farther than necessary before CSBA but I have the fever and will drive as far as I need.

I'll give my two cents as a noob (just 1 yr) and dont know much about up north launches.  You cant beat a harbor launch, except for a beautiful cove like Stillwater in Carmel (my pick for the 1st), for ease of launch.  I haven't really surf launched yet, been trying to work up to that level though.  So I have been out of Santa Cruz harbor, Stillwater Cove, and Half Moon Bay harbor.  Santa Cruz being the easiest to me with everything you may need at the harbor like bait, rigs, etc.  I have done a couple non-fishing shore launches, like at Bean Hollow, and Capitola.  But I am still just feeling like I need more practice in the surf before I going fishing from the surf.

Hope you make it out for the opener, and have a great time!

amphibian, Just food for thought, if I were you
(and i'm not) I wouldn't attempt any surf launch unless I had proper instruction first. One thing the ocean doesn't have is forgiveness. I took a couple of lessons before attempting a surf launch and my first surf launch was with a guide, Allen Bushnell. I have had a world of experience prior to Kayak fishing but with that said understood that most get into trouble when the thought is I can do this without assistance or the other side which is over confidence.
Just my .02 on the subject. Frankfishing hope to meet you at Mendo.
