I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2008 a few weeks ago.  Since then, whenever I try to access the NorCal Kayak Anglers website, my MS Internet Explorer starts to open the site then freezes up.  I get a window that Internet Explorer is not responding and have to shut it down.  Other websites that I go to seem to work fine.  NorCal seems to be the only one.  This almost caused me to miss the sign-up for the Elk Tournament!!!!  But Picean helped me out.  If I turn off Norton I can access the NorCal website fine but obviously, I don't like doing that.  Has this happened to any of you?  Anyone have any advise on a fix?  Is the web administrator of this site aware of this problem?

Thanks,
Jim

I suspect that since the NorCal website has Ads. Norton's Ad Blocker is doing its job. Not sure which version of Norton you have but there is a way to reconfigure it to not be so agressive.

Given that everything is fine when Norton is off, I'm guessing that Norton doesn't like some of the Ad programs Bill (the site admin) is running to generate the funds to keep this site going.

I don't have Norton Internet Security myself, but I imagine there should be a "white list" or "exclusions list" that would allow you to let Norton know that you're cool with NCKA and want to be able to view it. Maybe someone else with this software can give you a quick "how to".

I had the exact same problem. I contacted their free help desk via live chat and one of their geeks accessed my computer remotely and fixed it. Not sure what he did but no WAY could I have done it on my own. Not one problem since then.

I had the same problem with Norton Utilities several years ago. Switched to McAfee for a while. Didn't like the fact that both wanted more money every year for updated virus definitions; so I switched to Grisoft's free version of AVG virus checker. No problems since.

However, I'm sure Norton Internet Security contains an option somewhere where you can tell it not to block certain sites.

I have Norton and I don't have any of these problems.  Clearly your problem is...
"my MS Internet Explorer starts to open the site then freezes up"

Thanks for the info. & help everyone.  I've now got it narrowed down to something to do with the phishing filter.  I can't find an area where you can exclude individual websites from being scanned or reduce the scanning security.  Norton Internet Security 2008 doesn't have an ad blocker.  I guess I'll have to have a chat with a Norton rep.  When my update subscription runs out I might try a different antivirus program that won't be such a pain in the neck.
