I see lots of post for Del Valle and Mendo for Stirpers. Why do I not see any post for San Luis Res. Is it the wind? Has it been fishing poorly? I am in Santa Cruz and it is probably the closest I can get to for Stipers. Is there anyone ready to give it a shot? Let me know, any info is good info. Thanks

It gets pretty windy down there. The Forebay might be a little more productive. San Luis is a big lake to try to chase down stripers.

Jeffrm20 nailed it. San Luis is massive and the winds can go nutty up there. The Forebay down the road is much better as far as size and depth is concerned. Wind is always a factor in that area so make sure to check the wind reports before heading out. It can be a pretty good striper lake w/ boils and LMB fishing is quite good too. I also believe the Cali record came out of that lake.

How about night fishing it? The winds usually die down at night.

Now thats a thought. I am rigged with a bow light and a stean light. That plus a headlamp might do the trick. Thanks for the idea.

I fish the forebay 2-3 times a year. Good for fly fishing but lures and live jumbo minnows also work well with minnows probably being the most consistent tactic. The stripers on average are bigger than DV but smaller than Mendo. Good LMB fishing also in the weed beds. If you launch from the Medieros area, you will be closer to the hot spots. The main reservior can get really windy so you have to be careful. I have never fished it from a yak. You may want to hook up with 1CRZYIND, he fishes the forebay frequently and really has it down. Good luck!

The forebay is awesome, especially in fall and winter. I have heard reports of bigger than forebay avg. (18-21") coming out of there recently. Fun place to bass in the weeds as well, topwater can be a blast there.
