Don't have any gear on my yak yet, but can't wait to fish off it.

So far the fishing conditions do not look favorable. Might not be the best week for launching.  Hopefully it will get better as the week rolls on.

I have noticed over the year that when we enter a hot inland pattern the water usually starts calm and then turns rough. Such as what happened over the past week.  As the Fog begins to battle back the wind kicks up and our natural Air Conditioning swirls the water and ruins the fun.  The swell is down but the wind swell will make for a miserable time.

Hey Joe.  Stay home.  Don't go the HMB derby.  Lately, the first timers have been stealing all of the luck.... just ask Alex who won the SC Derby and the guy who caught the WSB at Linda Mar. :smt002

Chuck,

You have little to nothing to worry about. No experience, not much gear, heck, I don't even know which bait to bring for Mooch to Mooch.

Sometimes not knowing is the best strategy, I have out thought myself on numerous occasions!  :smt003

If you can find some hungry rockfish, it almost doesn't matter what you use.  They'll hit just about anything.   Every wacky homemade lure I've used has caught fish.

The way I look at if if I am over prepared then something always goes wrong.  However, when I throw caution to the wind I get a good fish.   Here is the formula for catching a big fish.

Forget something important like a net, gaff or club. Usually you when don't have something is when you need it the most.

ie. Mooch. You need bait to catch fish. He forgets bait, borrows bait, catches fish.

I don't bring my gaff last friday, I catch my first Ling from a Yak.

THAT'S MY FORMULA  :smt066

On the Saturday derby, all I ask is that you all donate a piece of bait to the Mooch....and if you follow the "rules", you will not find a banana on your deck  :smt077

I totally agree with Chuck  :smt023 ....Bill is another prime example....his first time out at HMB last year, he catches 3 cabs, a 30 inch ling and a few rockfish.......just last week, Bill launches out of Linda Mar for the first time and the weather was perfect....on to top it off, he catches a monster cab  :smt076

Joe....STAY HOME  :smt003
