Hrm, well here's my obligatory, cout >> "Hello World"; statement.

I'm new to both fishing and kayaks though I have a very strong interest in both.  I've gone boating/rafting/canoing many times over the years and had always lusted over a SOT kayak with a good touring length so I could do weekend and eventually week long trips and late last season I scored a great deal on a Prowler 15 from the REI outlet.  The 'yak had a few black scuff marks on it which I actually wiped off the day I brought it home, but those scuff marks made it possible for me to bring her home for $600. :D

On the fishing side I've honestly only gone a few times with the most successful was on a trip to lake Cachuma in the Santa Ynez valley, though I was on the shore for that one.  This last sat I got a chance to take the kayak on her inaugural run out at Lake Del Valle in Livermore with my wife who rented a paddle boat.  Unfortunately the paddle boat meant I was not going to be headed out for the dam where apparently all the fish are, because after a few hours all I got was wet.  That's ok it was fun regardless.

As I pulled back into the dock there were a couple of SOT kayaks loaded up with a bunch of fishing gear.  I'm sorry I'm terrible with names but it was a friendly husband and wife that introduced me to this site which I have already spent a few hours on reading through archives on various topics of interest.

Anyway, glad to be here.
-Tony :)

Oh and I can't forget a picture from the trip, boring kayak bow shot but... it's what I got.

:smt006  Howdy Tony and Welcome Aboard!

Don't worry about not having much fishing experience at all.  I'm the same way and that's why we're here!  :smt001

Nice of you to put the classic picture on your first post, too.  Oh how we do love the pictures!

Cheers, -Matt/HobieSport  :smt004

Welcome to ncka unrealtrip. Glad to have you  :smt001

You got the sickest deal on a new P15 that I've ever heard of. I paid $650 for a used one last year. Great score there and congrats on a super kickass boat. The fishing part will get better with experience.

Thanks for the welcome :)

Definitely looking forward to getting out on the water again and often.  Now the quest to get a couple of die cut stickers made for the bow that say "Pequod", maybe with a little harpoon or something too.  :smt044

Hey Tony - that shot is not boring at all, great scenery. This board is a great the best place around for fishing and rigging tips for 'yaks, recipes for fish from sashimi to bbq to smoked. How-to pointers, places to launch and much, much more. The resource of people here and their willingness to share their experience and expertise is awesome.

Yeah, brace yourself.  And if you're married (or solidly dating), do a search for WAF.  You'll need some.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
