Launched around 8:00 Saturday morning at the rock wall boat ramp, in pursuit of halibut. The water was quite choppy even though there was not much wind. It was a fairly splashy ride. Drifted with frozen anchovies on a slip rig with no success. The sinker was constantly jigging up and down because of the choppy water, and I had a hard time keeping it from constantly hitting the bottom, while still staying near the bottom. I mainly fished in 15' of water or less, except when I drifted over the large hole in front of the rock wall. Any tips from halibut experts would be welcome. I guess next time I may try this flasher rig for trolling that I've been reading about. I saw one other kayaker, Sharky, arriving at the boat ramp as I was packing up around 1:00 or so. Hope he had better luck than I did.

one thing-- you DO want your weight "ticking" off the bottom. Halibut are aggressive ambush predators and will chase a bait that is close.
If you are using a slip rig, try 18" of mono between the slider and the weight- that'll keep the bait right in the zone-- darting close to the bottom, and away...alternatively you can use a 3-way swivel.  I'm partial to 3-way with live bait, and sliders with dead or when trolling.
