Went to mendo for a little pre-csba scouting and a little ego boost post RR experience.
Due to the tourney being right around the corner ill keep the spot to myself and locals/ncka know all to well where the stripers are anyway.
I had multiple take downs but only landed 1 small striper that came in about 28.5. Wasnt sure about the .5 from the picture so I called it an even 28 for AOTY points. any opinions?

Also caught a few smaller largemouth that came in around 16-17". There were also alot of big carp on the surface and I suspect it was these fish causing whatever top water disturbances witnessed and not pre-boil activity. I wasnt out there very long but was able to cover ALOT of water in the T160 and also got its first blood and some much needed AOTY points.

Good stuff Terry!  Way to break in the new boat & earn a few AOTY points at the same time.  Would have loved a picture taken from the vanity mount with you holding the fish - maybe looking away.

but only landed 1 small striper that came in about 28.5.

Heck, I'd be happy with that being my biggest striper of the year.  Nothing to be ashamed of.  Sure there are bigger fish out there, but 28 and a half is nothing to sneeze at.

Keep up the awesome reports.

Michael

Way to go, Spider.  28.5 is quite respectable from what I've seen of striper reports - don't curse yourself!   :smt002

NOT BEING AN AOTY PLAYER...
I can honestly give you the .5.. The lower portion of the tail extends beyond the half mark.  But thats just me.  believe me a half inch does count.

Nice one Terry. Looks like 28.5 to me too. I wish I were out there with you yesterday, but you know the old story........work!

Looks like you are enjoying your new work schedule  :smt007

CHEERS!

Ok, I took the .5    thanks for the support!

Mahi,
yes Im VERY happy with the new schedule, but now I have 0 excuses why I dont have more points, except that Im not that good at multi-species fishing, YET.

Dilbeck,
please dont get me wrong. I appreciate the fish. It was a outstanding battler for its size and the 160s glide with a striper online was similiar to even the M4.4, but If I have any hope of winning AOTY I have to get big numbers in my "comfort" waters to hopefully balance out my serious weaknesses in the other fishing styles. Most here are fisherfolk who enjoy the kayak as a fishing platform. Being a kayaker who enjoys fishing has me a tad behind on the learning curve. An average striper just wont do, so its all about the upgrade.
Thanks for the vanity mount support! I figured most folks were done with my sometimes disturbing self portraits. Summer is coming and I really do have some amazing feet, but dont fear, Ill be using the V-mount on the big fish.

Sadly, I know what you mean. :smt009   Because of this, my goal is just to finish in the top half.  Being in top 10 would be the equivalent to winning it all, especially since some of the fish on the list I've never even landed.  Gonna be fun.

Way to go Spider!
Using minnows from Lakeport?
I hear the spring striper run is going on at Colusa. There's fish bigger than 28" there if you want them. I've yaked that in the past and am going soon this spring.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Great fish and report.  It was nice to meet you on the RR the other day.  And since like Kickin Bass I do not worship at the AOTY alter I will give you the .5 also.

Yep,I had operatives in the water from the lakeport facility.
I could be interested in that colusa run. Its kind of centralized and may rally some of the valley folk to join in. so many adventures brewing, spring is upon us and goodtimes ahead.

Nice one Terry, got mine beat already...nice news on Mendo, hows the level? Did you get a chance for any low-water-level recon photos this winter from your helo? That would be pretty cool.

Right on, Terry.  Nice fish to wash the "new yak skunk" off the OC.
