So... you were fighting a fish for 20 minutes, then it rips off almost a thousand feet of 50# powerpro...

Did a submarine snag your line?
Were there any GW sharks nearby that might have swallowed your fish?
Was the fish driving a small pickup truck at the time?

Seriously, there is no reason a striper that's been fighting for 20minutes should be able to spool that much 50# line.  Perhaps you should get a spring scale & test how much(or in the case, little) drag pressure you're really putting on the fish.  50# test is EXTREMELY hard to break on a kayak.

Jeff sorry about the loss of the fish but hey it's fishing and shit happens I wouldn't worry about the line too much spectra floats and some guy shooting around in a PB will wind it up for you around his prop. :smt012
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

what about the karma of hassling a poster that told a good story with annoying comments like this?  :smt002

cut jeff some slack, he's a young'un out there fishing hard and telling good stories!  :smt006

My comments were certainly not meant to hassle Jeff.  I can now see how they might have been taken as such and so I apologize Jeff, but please know that I meant no ill will.

I will say that I felt sympathetic for the person that ran out of gas but I also understand it is not Jeff's responsibility to help him or her.

As for the part about calling AAA, it was complete and utter sarcasm as I would assume that they would not deliver gas to a boater on the water - hence the emoticon.

My apologies again.  Keep up the hardcore fishing and reporting.
