Went to visit the folks in Copperopolis for the weekend. Took the boat and got out for 2 hours from 5-7 PM on Saturday afternoon. Put in at the O'Byrnes Ferry Road Bridge and paddled upriver. It's a 5 MPH zone for PBs above the bridge, there were only 3 PBs fishing right by the bridge, with the usual assortment of ski boats and jet skis out on the main lake. No wind, warm and peaceful quiet up the canyon - deer at the water's edge, courting osprey and canyon wrens. Trolled a shad rap about 3/4-1 mile up and back down the canyon.  Picked up a 17" LMB on the way up.  Forgot my official measuring device - nice, quick fish trip. First time with the kayak on Tulloch.

Take care - Bird

Nice report and pics.  It looks like a nice lake.  I have never been there.  How is the wind there in the summer?

I used to jump off that bridge and rock bluffs when i was in high school. If you stay in that canyon it is usually like glass. Caught a lot of lmb in that area fishing off the rocks. Jeff

Danglin - goin' old school!  :smt002
Sumo - that's the first time I have kayaked on the lake but I don't think the wind would be an issue anymore than is typical of the foothill lakes during the summer based on alot of time spent at my folks place. It's a narrow lake so it might even be a bit more protected compared to the wide open expanses at Melones and Don Pedro. As Craigh noted, the lake is very crowded with PBs and jet skis during the summer - still nice early or late up the canyon though. Jeff - there were kids jumping off the rocks on Saturday, as usual, though I could hear them yelp a bit when they hit that cold water. The bass was sluggish as well.
Take care - Bird
