San Joaquin Hatchery pics

Trekked down past Fresno to adopt a kayak this weekend (more on that later  ) & Sunday made a leisurely trip to Millerton Lake. On the way, saw the sign for the San Joaquin Fish Hatchery so made a detour & stopped by. Nothing too exciting but I'm like a little kid with this stuff, so I tossed some Trout Chow pellets to the fish & snapped some pics. Enjoy

Cool, thanks for the pics. You know every time I pass a hatchery I want to just pull off the road and check it out but I'm too stuck on getting on the water. Cool to see that you can just show up and take a tour. I'll give it a try next time.

Funny.. in the 6th pic the trout are sticking their heads out of the water. What do they think they are.. koi.

Yea, until I was posting the pics, I didn't even notice that one with its mouth wide open in the air. They obviously get very conditioned to the feeding; a lot of them will actually congregate toward you as you walk by because they've gotten used to people tossing them food.

It's gone up to 25c per scoop but I'm sure it's still a lot cheaper than the Berkley version! It would probably make good minnow bait, too, but so is dog & cat food... I noticed the blackbirds love the trout chow also.
