Anyone have any experience, comments, etc on GPS fish finders? I wonder if the functions are comparable to individual units or are just watered-down versions of one or both components.

Lots of people of the board have them.  I'm sure you'll get some good info.

One major concern is that when the unit goes down, you lose both features.  Whereas when you have separate units, you'll at least have the other unit.

I chose to go the separate route because of that and I will use my GPS outside of kayak fishing.  It will be used when hiking and camping as well as for other various activities.

Good luck.

I have had great success with some of the units from Humminbird.  They have decent base maps included (most others don't), they have been super reliable, and very easy to use.  The unified unit makes for a clean setup and a GPS unit with a big easy to read screen.

That is definitely one advantage of having both features in one unit, one less thing you have in your cockpit.  Especially depending on the size of your kayak.  As small as it is, I have yet to find a good place to store my GPS while fishing.

I have an Eagle 250 FF/GPS and enjoy using it. No watered down features and fairly easy to use

Eagle CUDA 240 here.  I choose the combo unit to keep less things exposed on deck.

What scwa said. Only problem I have is the occasional foggy screen. Anything I can do about that?

Have some Sunshine imported! Mine does the same thing if it has been damp. But it usually clears after it warms up.

Keep your head unit in a warm dry place and it will defog or put it in a container with some desiccant.

Ha ha (sarcastic)... :smt002 Yeah we've been on the other side of the clouds until recently. I guess I just have to store it in a better place. Thanks guys.
