After seeing the pictures from last year's Islander Trip and seeing how much fun I had just looking at the pictures, my wife said "we need to make it a priority for you to go on the next one of those trips." Isn't she great?  :smt007

Anyhow, I was thinking that with the unexpected tax refund we are all getting this year I can do my part to get the economy going again by spending it on a long range mother ship trip!  :salut:

Has anybody been talking about getting another Islander trip together this year? With this kind of WAF and an unexpected tax refund, I'm already excited about the possibilities.  :smt003

Not everyone is getting a refund. The stimulus package is a farce.

Not everyone is getting a refund. The stimulus package is a farce.

If you make less than $75,000 as an individual or less than $150,000 as a married couple, and you file your taxes this year, you're going to get something. For me, whether or not it is a good idea or a bad idea is past the point of debate because it has already been signed into law. Like it or not, it's coming and I highly doubt people who disagree with the policy are going to send their check back with a little note that says "No thanks, I'm good." My point is what to do with the refund.

So, my question was about fishing. Is there any word on another Islander trip, or other long range kayak opportunities?

I'm afraid the only thing my refund is going to stimulate is my IRA.   I guess that's pretty un-patriotic of me.  Oh well.

Enjoy your Uncle Sam sponsored kayak fishing adventure.

I was just responding to your line that "we are all" getting a refund.

The person to ask is PAL (Paul Liebowitz). He sets up a trip ever year (so far). And when he announces the trip, it fills up fast. There will be many people angling for an encore experience.

Whatever happened with your job offer on the Gulf Coast?

Brian, by the time you retire, all the IRA investments could make you and your wife millionaires.

No problem Hojo, the gulf coast was an option, but after contacting them I learned that they won't pay for transfer of station, which would make moving awfully expensive. I think with the housing market the way it is, I'll stick around here unless there's another interesting job opportunity that will pay for my move.

Mine won't be spent on a fishing trip, more likely will go into an account for property taxes, or towards a new 9K watt generator, or to get our driveway paved

To help with the WAF points, I think I'll give it her and tell her "Do what ever you want with it, my dear loving wife, and enjoy" With all of the points that I have alredy used, it "WILL" help.  :smt003 Just a thought.

I went on the islander last year, and I'm going this year...I think you should go, and spend your mad money, and catch big fishes. I'm not sure about availability of slots, priority will be given to "alumni", but you should contact PAL or Scwafish early, and get you name on the roster or the wait list.

Best,

Paul

We invited past participants first, and this year it is already full with returning Islanders.  If you want to get on a waiting list, please send me a PM.  Chances are someone will bail before October due to unforseen conficts.
