Hooked up with InsaneDwane for a Dino Try,

Awesome weather, lots of action, just no Dino Love,

For me, Technical Difficulty day, get to " The Slot ",  Flipper comes off my Mirage drive,

No worries, I always carry my set of Allen wrenches, uh... Oops... not today :smt009..

Paddle the rest of the way, now knowing my time is even shorter because I have to paddle in

and need to pick up The Fellas by 2:50  :?

Next my depth Finder does not seem to working right ever since I let The CC&K boys take it to

The ISE shows :what,  The Best was Last cast,  I'm working on my Drive system with my last

Ghost Shrimp and my pole is in the holder. I look up.. " Bendo " Big Time..

" Well, this must be Mr. Dino because I had absolutely nothing to do with it getting Hooked "..

Grab the Rod, set the Hook,

And my Cursed Avet Reel comes Flying off and zings up to the first eye :smt091

Grab it, put it back on,  fight is on.. Happens again!!!! :smt013

I know, operator error :smt003,  No BFD anyway, just another Ray,

Really fun even with my difficulties, working out the cobwebs I guess,

It's been a while since I had anything tugging on the end of my Rod  :smt002

Thanks Insanedwane, next week sounds good to me,

Hopefully I'll won't be as late as I was today picking up The Fellas :smt009

 Couple more things,

I was checked by Miss Fish & Game @ the launch, so play fair everyone :nono:

 She was Kool

And all Hobie Peddlers, if you haven't already prepared for the " Flipper trick ", I suggest you do so.

Carry 2 Allen wrenches, one for the Drive Locks and another for the set screw shown in the last photo

Also, carry something to secure the other side of the flipper that is held by a metal pin,

a sturdy zip tie might do in a Pinch..

I was able to twist up a swivel that tighten the set screw a bit and was able to get back in,

but, Had to go slow and it kept coming out, what a pain :smt011

Don't let this happen to You....

Went over the Dumbarton today around 1330 hrs. to see PB galore just north of the bridge on the western edge of the channel...hmmm I say to myself it may be time again to torture myself.

I can hear the sweet nothings coming from Danglin mouth as I read his report; "F@#$%^& equipment. Thanks for the heads up on proper tool to carry from now on.
At least you guys had some hookups. Was thinking about the two of you out there as I crossed the Dumbie Bridge.

 All Good :smt001,

Just glad it happened when the "Stakes" were not so high,

Tells me I need to go through everything and get it in shape

That's no Joke, study your Mirage drive and take a good look @ those pins.

I think Hobie sells a repair kit for this, might  be a Good idea or @ least figure what you

would do if it snapped on ya. Took mine 3 years to fail. Not to bad considering how much I

used it.

I had a flipper go just like that, but the housing was cracked. I got another one from the dealer under warrenty and fixed it. It looks as if the shaft hole is wearing out on your drive.

thans too to the info. I will now pack allen wrenches in my pack from now on.

By the way, great pictures and report.

So true, and a great reminder to everyone that YESTERDAY is a great time to inspect your gear!!  Better that it happened to you in the bay than, say out at Big Sur or Elk.  Had an old mirage drive go south on me out at the Kitchen and that was a LONG paddle back.  After that I carried allen wrenches and cotter pins in my gear bag at all times.

You ever Paddle one of these tanks?

Kind of blew me away when I borrowed PolePole's Prowler,  Whole differnet trip and fun.

Probably going to get a Prowler 13 to become " Studly " like the rest of you "Old School" Types :smt002
