I roughly followed a recipe that Z posted but simply used Island Teriyaki instead of his marinade.  Then dipped in corn meal and fried.  They were edible but the taste was strong maybe somewhat overmarinated but not to my liking.  There were also lots of small bones in the fillets and when I tried to remove them there really was not much meat left.  Maybe to much surface area to volume?  Those little guys also put out a fairly strong smell while cleaning.  Oh yea, per Z's recommendation, cleaning them in ice water takes hands of steel.  Man that was cold.

I somehow missed this post until now - cool news that you scored the new Marauder, Etienne.  Maybe I can get a test drive at the Cove?...   :smt006  I'm still thinking of scoring that boat from Sean/Scwa at some point in the future.

See you in T-minus 4 weeks...   :smt001

Mak attack!

I went for dabs out of MBK at around 8:30 on 2/15.For pretty much the same thing...lots of green maks and sardines, lizard fish, and a few dinky dabs.It was a super nice, sunny day.I paddled out with the offshore wind and paddled back after the wind had shifted onshore from the NW.

This was also the maiden voyage of my new Trident.I really liked how the boat handled and it tracked nicely.I even used the rudder to set up handsfree drifts. :smt004

Hey Erin...very true about the mack attack...like 500 of them...I didnt get any dabs but got some sardines...are there different types of sardines like the mackarel? Is there a good fish ID page for differentiating the different macks?  I think I got the spanish which are pretty good broiled w high heat or Q'ed up...thanks, and congrats on the new trident ...pretty nice damn boat I must say... :smt012

E, the only way I ate them so far is smoked. I cured them in a brine of 1 to 2 salt to sugar with some "soy-vay" garlic marinade.

then I smoked them, skin on, and the bones stick out cause the smoking causes shrinkage of the flesh. easy to pull out or avoid when breaking the smoked slabs apart.

They were good that way.

you might buy yourself a 'mini-chief' smoker and give that a try.

That sounds more promising.  I already have the smoker.  I will give that a try next time.
