G'morning,
Does anyone know the best time to see the grey whales in Tomales Bay?  My wife and I went paddling in the bottom of Tomales last Saturday.  When I mentioned that there are, sometimes, whales in the bay she was very interested in seeing them.  I would rack up thousands, maybe millions, of WAF points if we saw a whale from the kayaks.  I am guessing that putting in at Nick's Cove and looping around Hog island to White Gulch and back would give us the best opportunity.
      Any info would be appreciated.
Greg

I've been in Tomales many times and have never seen a whale in the bay.

They are often seen in the ocean looking off of bodega head.

Best chance for seeing whales is to paddle out of moss landing in good weather.

I can't recall ever seeing whales inside at Tomales either, but I have seen plenty down here in Santa Cruz. I always seem to see them straight out from the lighthouse, although my closest encounters have always been close to the coast between Santa Cruz and HMB. I've seen Grays come up inside the kelp just north of Natural Bridges, and once even got a humpback breaching show in the same spot.

Hi Yakers:

March is fun in Mendocino. I saw several Kayaking by Little River Can 1 at VanDamm and, off of the Mendo. Headlands.
