My super-sissy 07 Tacoma gets 28-30 mpg everyday.  Women run from it...thankfully I am married!  It has been an awesome yak mobile.

More annoying is Toyota makes diesel mini-trucks that get 35 mpg, but doesn't sell them in the USA  :smt013

I wish I would have waited one more year to buy my Tacoma. I have the '04 which is the last year of the older style and the mileage is significantly less than the new styles.  :smt011

Rock on! I think a kayak haulin' car is pretty much ANY car. I use my 32 MPG '91 Honda civic all the time. But hell, WTF do I know?

F* it, I just found my new yak truck.

I remember once on a trip from the twin cities area to the boundary waters in MN (about 3-4 hours) we cartopped a canoe along with a car full of frat guys and gear in a TDI Jetta, and it got 45MPG.  This was in 1999 or so.

'Course that car isn't legal here... (yet)
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

It is most certainly legal to register here. They are highly sought after in fact. The retail prices for TDIs in CA seems to be higher than anywhere else in the nation. I believe that you are quite correct in one sense though - VW could not sell them here.

I'm seriously desiring a Jetta TDI wagon with a 5 speed. I just can't get myself to pay what folks are asking for them.
