Hey folks  :smt006
Droppin' in to say hello. I'm sort of a pre-noob - haven't even gotten a first kayak yet, but after peeking in on this site for a few weeks, I'm already feeling the "contact high" & can't wait to give it a try.

I saw those four guys out in the slop near the Oakland A/P on Sunday -- not that I want to start out on a day like that but I did admire they're zeal; even the ducks were giving up & heading for shelter... By the way, congrats on today's catch (Duane/Dave, I think). Beautiful pics - what a difference from Sunday.

Anyway, thanks to "Danglin" for suggesting I post this and hopefully I'll see some of you out on the water before too long.
- Aaron

Welcome Aaron.  Some call it a madness, others say it's an addiction, but I say it's a disease.  Careful or you may become infected.

Have you looked into any yaks?  If so, make sure you test drive because what's good for one person is not always good for another.  And don't forget the essentials, a PFD and a radio.  You don't want your first trip to be your last.

Look forward to possibly hooking up with you in the future.

Michael

WuzzUP?!  as soon as the weather get more friendly, you could probably just show up at a posted HOOk UP destination and test-paddle a few of the different ones that will be showin up to fish........or go straight over to Outback Adventures (next to SanQuentin) and test a few there!  there are sloughs and areas protected from the wind.
Check out the site and you'll see the different mfgr's they carry.
I got my used P-13 from they're " SO LAST YEAR!" rental fleet for $650.oo (2yr.ago)

AAron-
Definately try out the yaks.  Where are you located?  I've got a couple to my fleet that if you want to try out you would be more than welcome.  I'm in Elk Grove south of Sacramento.

I may even have a yak that I can sell you if it fits you.  It's a Peception Prism about 4-5 years old.

Good to have you aboard and GET READY FOR THE MADNESS to consume you.

Welcome to the "Madness"  :smt006 I was like you about 6 months. Now I have a yak (Malibu X-Factor) and  :smt007 doing what I do. The only thing is that I have the sturgeon FEVER  :smt013 and can't get out to fish. Anyhow, a big "WELCOME" and hope to meet up and  :fishing1 and possibility  :beer3

Aaron,

You are so doomed.  In a good way.  You have lots of friends there on the bay.

Cheers to everyone who replied - if people at work paid this much attention to what I said, I might actually be getting somewhere.
Thanks for the advice & test drive offers. I'm definitely lookin forward to checkin out some yaks soon. You'll be hearin' from me...
Oh, obiewan, to answer your question, I'm in SF. Sacto area is really not too far, in the whole the scheme of things.

As for this weekend - if this rain keeps up, it's gonna be more like :snorkel and maybe some  :beer1 but not so much  :fish - there's a leak in the roof so I have to move some stuff around. It's time to organize & throw out some crap anyway...

I'm pretty new to kayak fishing but I can give at least one piece of expert advice: find a kayak you like and get started. I had been mulling over buying a kayak for about three years and after my first trip out when I finally did buy one I was kicking myself for putting it off so long. I don't think I had paddled five strokes that day before I was hooked.
