Lake Mendocino Turkey Day

Met up with Sean, Chris, Andy, Darren, Sean's bro-in-law, and Andy's youngest Taylin at the lake around 9 am. It was a perfect day without power boats. Not much topwater to speak of, but I believe everyone landed at least one. Off the water at 1 pm to feast on the big bird.

It was indeed quite the excellent t-day striper fest.  Me and Jelly do this every year, usually freezing cold and by ourselves.  It was a REAL treat to have warm weather and lots of great friends.

My brother in law got things started with this nice fish...



Lately, all Jelly has been wanting to do is sack QBs and put the wood to RBs



But yesterday, he actually went fishing!    He caught this little schoolie right after my brother got his...



Then SSpermission was on...



and in the boat...



Then it was kickinbass and salmonberry...



Then it was my turn, and then I got another one...



Then it was Jelly's turn again, for a better grade...



and then Mahi finished it off with a really nice 33 incher



Came home to a house oozing the scent of roast turkey...AWESOME day!

Why buy fleece and gortex, when it grows for free.  The problem is, I wanted brown but I got grey.

Great morning for the mendo crew.

Man... I just missed you guys. I started off at Clear Lake... not much happening. So, I decided to go to Mendo on my way home. Got to the north end and launched from there. Very muddy... oh well... Got one right away then, it was slow. The bite really picked up just after 4 though. I ended the day landing 2 LMB, 4 stripers and 3 broke me off for various reasons... I even had a double hook up... both broke off... I sure would've liked to see the size of one in particular... didn't even have a chance though. Oh well... it's all good though... I hope you all had a great Turkey Day.

I don't know how I missed you guys, either.  I stayed at the ghetto camp north, launched thru the mendo mudd, caught two nice stripers within five minutes of getting to a nice dropoff, trolling a bucktail jig, within minutes of each other.  Then nothing, so I busted out the senkos and caught some viscious lmb in the sunken trees.

Crazy cruising the exposed shoreline/lakebottom/muddflats... tree roots decorated with fishing line like tinsel on xmas trees... found a bunch of lures, flies, and an anchor.  Even a boat, sunken on the north end, (the bow should be exposed in a day or two).

We were in the south end.
